Excel 2008 for Mac - Pivot Table Field Layout

Looking for any experience on how to configure my pivot table fields in Excel 2008 for Mac. Using Excel 2003 for Windows I could easily change whether tables formatted in tabular or outline form, as well as chose where I want my subtotals to be (top or bottom). I am an experienced PC user who has recently bought a Mac and finding out about all of the differences. Regards, -Pete

    Hi Pete
I've never used a Mac, but if the PT's in 2008 for Mac are like XL2007, then you will find these settings on the Design tab, that appears when your cursor is located on the PT.

Choose Layout>Report to choose Outline, Compact or Tabular
Choose Layout>Subtotals to choose where you want the Subtotals to appear

Thanks for your reply Roger. I also have Excel 2007 running on Windows Vista. I was able to successfully follow your instructions in Excel 2007 (Windows). Unfortunately, I have not been able to duplicate / crack the code for Excel 2008 Mac with your advice. It could be that I am missing something obvious (don't believe so). Also the 2 software packages are quite different in layout and form, but I do expect the same functionality. Any other thoughts? Any other persons with advice or the same question for Excel 2008 for Mac? I actually think I may have stumbled on to a development omission from MS with Excel 2008. I have also posted on their site. If I get confirmation or resolution, I will re-post it here. In the meantime, still unresolved... -Pete

I'm in the same boat. I'm proficient with Office 2007 but the Mac version is missing a lot - in particular, moving data rows to columns and other formatting options.

They charge enough for the Mac version. I just wish they would a) document the omissions and b) fix them.

    Hi
You guys might be better posting this request to the Microsoft newsgroup

    microsoft.public.excel.mackintosh

There are a heap of guys who hang out there who use the Mac version, and they would be far more able to answer your questions on this version.

Thanks - That's a great support area for Mac users. I can at least verify that the features weren't implemented on the Mac.

Re: Excel 2008 for Mac - Pivot Table Field Layout

I use 2007 at work and I have 2008 on my Mac at home.  I've noticed several BIG differences.  The main 2 being that Pivot Tables have little or no support, and Macros (which are VB driven) do not exist in '08.  At least I have not been able to find it.  I love the stability of a Mac and really do not want to mix windows in there.  Because of the size of the spreadsheets I've worked in, the addition of that to an already resource-hungry windows-on-mac configuration may turn out to be more trouble than it's worth.

Using Pivot tables is indeed very uncomfortable in Mac Excel 2008. There are other problems as wel..mu last discovery was switching between formula and value view modes. Posted about it here excel-2008-for-mac-flaws-and-problems/
